DECK THE HALLS, 2024

Andrea Crespi presents Deck the Halls, a site-specific art installation that reinterprets the essence of tradition through a contemporary lens.
In Italian culture, Christmas is deeply tied to family—moments of togetherness where play becomes a central ritual. Playing card games is one of the most iconic and cherished activities associated with the festive season in the collective imagination.
The installation, conceived for the lobby of the Hotel Savoy in Florence, takes the form of a monumental card castle inspired by the shape of a Christmas tree. Standing three meters tall, the structure is composed of Scala Quaranta and Burraco playing cards, each one customized with the artist’s distinctive visual language.
Over 6,000 cards will be used to bring this unique artwork to life—a symbolic fusion of play, tradition, and art that celebrates the timeless beauty of the holiday season.
