HEAD OF APHRODITE, 2024
Andrea Crespi reinterprets the past in an innovative way that does not distort classical aesthetics but transforms them through his personal imagination and unmistakable stylistic touch. In this case, the Venus de Milo, one of the greatest symbols of classical art, becomes the focal point of his creative process. Using the element of the line, his signature expressive symbol, Crespi reimagines the iconic figure as a new contemporary icon.
While it may appear that he enriches Venus with the addition of lines, this effect is actually achieved through the opposite technique: the removal of material. This method embodies the essence of his artistic poetics-bringing innovation through simplification, a concept he calls Neosynthesis.
This is the very first sculpture ever created by Andrea Crespi, presented in three different materials: Carrara marble, bronze, and resin. Sculpture is a technique that Andrea began to explore in order to transcend the two-dimensionality of canvas and push beyond the spatial limits of the concept of the line. The artistic process begins digitally with a 3D model and is then translated into the physical realm through ongoing technological experimentation and material research.
